Toowoomba - Carnarvon gorge 596 km
I will pick you up from your homes, motels, or Wellcamp airport. Our first day on tour is a driving day heading out on the Darling Downs through some of Queensland’ most productive agricultural country, west to Roma, then North to Carnarvon Gorge for our first night camping in the bush.
Today we are going to walk this magnificent gorge, experience its ancient sub tropical rainforest and connection with its people and culture. There may be a chance of a platypus sighting as well.
Carnarvon Gorge - Barcaldine
Leaving Carnarvon gorge we will be driving through the Great Dividing range along the Capricorn Hwy to Barcaldine. The home of The Australia labour party and one of Australia’s beautiful in land towns and a chance to visit the Labour party museum.
Barcaldine - Kynuna
We will be driving through Longreach today where the Thomson River runs into the coppers creek. With a chance to see one of the many museums there, Stockman’s Hall of Fame, the QANTAS museum or the Power house and social history museum. Then onto Winton where the Banjo Patersons museum and a look at Winton it’s self. We are in Dinosaur country now so if the group wishes we can take time to explore this area with a visit to The Age of Dinosaurs Museum. Hoping to reach Kynnuna and camp at the head of the Diamantina river, As we are now in the Lake eyre basin one of the largest basins in the world.
Kynuna - Lawn Hill National Park
Queensland outback is so vast and wondrous, we will be leaving the Lake Eyre Basin today with a better knowledge of it size and area, and into the Carpintaeria Basin the catchment of the Wild Rivers area of Queensland. Our destination is Lawn Hill (Adels Grove), still in Dinosaur country and Burke and Wills on our minds.
Lawn Hill (Adels Grove)
Today we spend the whole day exploring Lawn Hill National Park, bush walking, canoeing and swimming in the gorge. A possible visit to the World heritage area of the Riversleigh Fossil Fields, and a chance for a swim in the thermal pools, at our camp site at Adels Grove that afternoon.
Lawn Hill - Wild rivers
Our day today is spent driving through the wild rivers area of the Gulf of Carpentaria, through Hells Gate and over the Northern Territory boarder. With many river crossings in our day, hoping to reach Surprise creek for our bush camp.
Wild rivers - Mataranka
Driving through this remote area of the Northern territory we will be seeing spectacular scenery, passing through Borroloola, Cape Crawford, continuing along the Carpentaria Hwy and onto the Stuart Hwy. A visit to Daily Waters and then up the famous ‘We of the never never country Mataranka. Camping over night and swimming in the pristine thermal waters of the Elsey creek.
Mataranka - Katherine Gorge
The destination today is Katherine Gorge and Nitmuluk National Park where we will spend the day exploring this wonderful Gorge.
Katherine - Kununurra
The journey today is through some of Australia’s most spiritual and wondrous country. We travel through the Joseph Bonaparte Basin, to Victoria River and Timber creek and then onto our final destination the capital of the Ord River basin, Kununurra. We will be camping on Lake Kununurra at The Discovery caravan park, where you can book tours, cabins and connection to flights.

Any additional flights, cruises and side excursions are optional extras, and need to be booked before departure from Broome.
If you require a single tent, just let us know.

What to bring:
Even though our days will be perfect weather the nights can drop in temperature, and very unlikely that we will experience rain.
Keep your luggage to a minimum
Torch with spare batteries (head torch is best)
Pillow & sleeping bag or sheet and good blanket
Good walking shoes with ankle support
Thongs or sandals
